A Wawa in Lebanon County? It could happen sooner than you might think.

Although Lebanon County has long been clearly on the Sheetz side of the made-to-order Maginot Line dividing the Altoona-based chain from its Philly-based counterpart, today the detente isn’t quite so solid as it once was. You can now find Wawas and Sheetzs within sight of each other as far south as Florida. But not here in Lebanon County โ€“ yet.

Last week, Wawa announced that it would be aggressively expanding “along the Susquehanna River” with the potential for up to 40 additional stores in Central Pennsylvania. Wawa currently has 17 stores in Berks and Lancaster counties.

Wawa said it plans to open its first new Central Pennsylvania store in 2024. Its first confirmed new midstate location will be at the intersection of Route 11/15 and Valley Road, south of Interstate 81, in Cumberland County.

That all said, the company declined to comment on whether it was specifically considering Lebanon County locations, and Lebanon County is certainly not along the Susquehanna River. There’s a good chance Lebanon County will remain a duel between Sheetz and York-based Rutter’s, but if you can’t wait to get a Shorti with your fill-up, Wawa has a site nomination form on its website.
