Even though this is our first official review of 2023 (Happy New Year!), this was our last reviewed dinner of 2022.
During the Christmas season we, like most of you, had some busy days. On this evening, we had a chance to sit down and enjoy a meal with nothing else on our agenda. Unfortunately, the little critic decided to take a nap on the car ride over to the restaurant.
So, we called an audible and decided to order takeout for this meal. We still wanted to visit because we were trying to get a few stamps on our Soup Stroll cards. Rising Sun Bar & Kitchen, located along 322 in Campbelltown, offered an online menu for us to make our selections.

For tonight’s meal, one critic got beef brisket stew ($9) and the warm Caesar Brussels sprout salad ($18). The other critic got the seafood chowder ($8) and the unagi roll ($13).
The soups come in one size. The brisket stew was very brothy with a very tender and well-seasoned brisket piece. We would have liked the meat to be broken more rather than being one large piece. The seafood chowder came with lump crab and shrimp in a cream base and topped with croutons. This is a very rich selection which paired well with our sushi roll.
The Brussels sprout salad comes with sliced Brussels sprouts, bacon, parmesan cheese, and Caesar dressing with sliced chicken breast. This is the only salad on the menu without a gluten free option. The flavors jump out right away. The firmness of the Brussels sprouts lends itself to being a good base on the salad.
The unagi roll comes with smoked eel, cucumber, sesame seeds, eel sauce, and fish roe. This roll does include raw fish. I am a big sushi fan and I have heard the folks recommend sushi here. The options for rolls are limited. My choice tonight was a good selection, and the eel did taste fresh. If you’re looking to quench a slight sushi urge, this will suffice.
Our take: The Rising Sun has been under new ownership for a few years and really updated the facility and the menu. The menu offerings are well thought out and put together with some different options for the Valley. The menu can be on the pricier side, but it is quality that you do get in return. The only menu does not list prices for the dishes. To find the prices, you will need to start an online order. We wish would have enjoyed our meal at the restaurant, but that’s life with a toddler.
