The Penn State Extension Master Watershed Steward Program of Lebanon County is gearing up for its fourth annual Native Tree and Shrub Sale, featuring a limited stock of 28 diverse native trees and shrubs.

The plants, known to attract birds, butterflies, and native bee species, also offer benefits such as landscape beautification, privacy, and shade.

“There is something truly magical that happens when you start adding native species to the landscape. It’s one of the top ways to invite more birds, butterflies, and native bee species to your yard,” said Leah Zerbe, a nature columnist and Master Watershed Steward. “If you plant it, they will come!”

Beyond aesthetics, these trees and shrubs play a pivotal role in environmental conservation. They aid in flood control, soil stabilization, and the filtration of pollutants. All plants for sale are native to Pennsylvania and are procured from a leading native plant nursery.

Proceeds from the sale are directed towards the Lebanon County Master Watershed Steward Program, bolstering its commitment to promoting education and advancing improvements in our local watersheds.

It’s worth mentioning that fall is the prime season to introduce new trees to the ground. However, plant enthusiasts should note: this sale is strictly for pre-orders. There won’t be any sales during the pickup.

Orders are now open until Aug. 27. Pickup will be Saturday, Sept. 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Lebanon County Penn State Extension Office (2120 Cornwall Road).
