Motorists on Route 78 through Lebanon County can expect delays this week, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced Monday.

PennDOT spokesman Michael Crochunis said the state agency will conduct inspections this week on the Route 72 (Ebenezer Road) bridge spanning Route 78 in Union Township.

Weather permitting, the release said, the inspection will be performed Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 1-2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. where the interstate crosses Route 72 at mile markers 1.2 and 1.3.

“There will be alternating right and left lane restrictions in the eastbound lanes of I-78” during the inspection, Crochunis said in the release. “Travelers are reminded to be alert for these operations, to obey work zone signs, and to use caution when driving through work zones for their safety, as well as for the safety of the inspection crews.”

PennDOT reminds motorists that they can check conditions on major roadways online at www.511PA.com. The free website and 511PA smartphone app provide traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.
