Penn State Extension educators are offering a crash course in healthy eating habits for anyone planning a diet as part of their New Year’s resolution.

The six-part series is called “The Volumetrics Weigh of Life: Weight Management Plan” and will run from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Jan. 11 to Feb. 15. Workshops will be held at the Penn State Extension’s Lebanon County office, 2120 Cornwall Road, Suite 1, Lebanon.

According to a release from extension spokeswoman Karen Rudy, the program is based on the research of Barbara Rolls, professor of biobehavioral health at Penn State, and is designed for anyone interested in losing or maintaining weight while still eating satisfying amounts of food. Those who want to learn strategies to eat well for optimal health also can benefit from the plan.

Instructors will discuss fundamental weight management principles and emphasize sustainable eating patterns for lifelong weight management. Each of the six classes will provide calorie density lessons, food demonstrations, examples of Volumetrics food choices, and interactive learning opportunities through small-group discussions and activities.

Rather than relying on fad diets, participants will learn to think positively about what they can eat, use science-based nutritional advice to achieve and maintain weight management goals, choose foods to control hunger and increase satiety, and modify recipes to incorporate Volumetrics principles.

Deadline for registration is Jan. 10. Fee for the course is $40.
