A house in Myerstown caught fire on Saturday, leaving one resident in the hospital and another resident and three cats displaced.
Around 9:50 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, the Lebanon County 911 Center dispatched Myerstown and neighboring mutual aid fire companies to 526 S. Cherry St. for a structure fire.
When fire crews arrived, they observed smoke drifting from the house’s windows and its roof line and quickly controlled the fire.
A 73-year-old female resident was home when the house caught fire and sustained injuries before escaping the structure. She was transported via Schaefferstown Ambulance to the Hershey Medical Center to be treated for smoke inhalation.
There was no update on the woman’s condition, according to police as of Saturday afternoon.
The house fire displaced a male resident and three cats. No other injuries were reported.
It was determined that the fire started in the first-floor living room, although the cause was not immediately known. The fire is under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Unit.
The house did not have any apparent working smoke detectors when it caught fire.
The fire caused an estimated $200,000 or more in damage to the residence.
