Lebanon County Department of Emergency Services has extended an ongoing Code Blue alert to last until Monday, Jan. 22, at 10 a.m.
The initial alert was issued Sunday, Jan. 14, beginning at 2 p.m. The extension of the alert was based on National Weather Service forecasts indicating that the wind chill or actual temperature will fall below 20 degrees Fahrenheit most nights over the coming week.
Individuals and families who are homeless can contact Lebanon County Crisis Intervention during this period at 717-274-3363 for assistance in finding temporary overnight accommodations.
Additionally, this week Tuesday to Friday, Lebanon County Community Action Partnership can provide assistance to families from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day through their hotline at 717-273-9328 or their Lebanon offices at 220 E Lehman Street.
Lebanon County DES is responsible for issuing Code Blue alerts during times when the risk of severe or life-threatening exposure-related injuries is significantly higher than normal, said DES in the release. These periods include sustained periods when the temperature or wind chill is below 20 degrees Fahrenheit and when greater than 8 inches of snow accumulation is expected in a short period.
