Republican John Schlegel announced last week that he plans to seek re-election to the state House representing the 101st district in Lebanon County.

Schlegel is currently serving his first term in Harrisburg after winning the seat left vacant by outgoing state Rep. Frank Ryan in 2022. He beat his Democratic challenger with a 62% margin at the polls.

He told LebTown then he was running “to ensure that the 101st district continues to have a strong conservative voice in the state House of Representatives.” The 101st district covers Lebanon city, Cornwall Borough and North Cornwall, West Cornwall, North Lebanon, South Lebanon, and West Lebanon townships.

Schlegel serves on the House Aging and Older Citizens, Children & Youth, Education, and Human Services committees. According to his statement Tuesday, he has a 100% attendance record in the House chamber, is active in all committee voting sessions and hearings, and received a perfect 100% on his voting record from the National Federation of Independent Businesses.

During his first year in office, Schlegel co-sponsored several bills, including HB 27 addressing a substitute teacher shortage in Pennsylvania. HB 27 was recently signed into law. He is currently working on legislation to address local issues initiated by constituents.

“Lebanon County is the second fastest-growing county in Pennsylvania,” Schlegel said in the release. “Along with growth comes a need to work with people to address challenges that arise. I plan to serve the people by continuing to be visible and accessible to my constituents. Listening to their concerns and communicating in multiple ways is crucial to my work on their behalf.”

The primary election will be held April 23.

Schlegel has been an administrator in both the Lebanon and Cornwall-Lebanon school districts. A lifelong Republican, he lives in Cornwall with his wife, Ruth Ann. They have two grown children and five grandchildren.
