The South Londonderry Township Board of Supervisors discussed an application for a special zoning exception, awarded various bids for township projects and tabled the Lebanon County 2023 Hazard Mitigation Plan.
Verizon submitted special zoning exception and variance applications for a proposed cell tower. The township Zoning Hearing Board will meet on Thursday, Feb. 29, to review the applications.
The proposed 123-foot tower would be located at 798 Airport Road, which is near the south side of the In The Net sports complex. The supervisors decided to review the plans more thoroughly and address the topic at their next workshop meeting prior to the zoning hearing board’s meeting.
The board awarded several bids for upcoming projects in the township.
A bid of $108,777.95 for the paving of the Lawn Fire Company’s parking lot improvement was awarded to Pennsy Supply under the condition that an agreement between the township and fire company would allow the township to be compensated for extraneous costs. Supervisor Jack Custer abstained from the vote.
A bid of $69,966 for the concrete portion of the Lawn Fire Company’s parking lot improvement was awarded to Bertolet Construction LLC under the aforementioned agreement. Custer abstained from the vote.
Supervisors unanimously agreed to award the bid of $178,995 for the Killinger Creek stream restoration project to the Aquatic Resource Restoration Co. The project is part of the MS4 program and will include erosion and bank control along the creek. The restoration project is primarily funded by grants, including the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s Growing Greener grant and the National Fish & Wildlife Foundation grant.
The board unanimously agreed to award the 2024 roadway project paving bids of $611,390.25 to New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. and of $99,475 to Russell Standard Corp.
A motion to award D. E. Gemmill a bid of $9,330.28 for the 2024 line painting project was unanimously approved.
The supervisors also discussed the following topics:
- The supervisors unanimously agreed to table the Lebanon County 2023 Hazard Mitigation Plan.
- The supervisors unanimously agreed to provide a detour plan as approved by PennDOT for the closure of Prospect Road due to bridge safety issues.
- The supervisors discussed hosting an open house for final public comments related to the drafted zoning ordinance. Details about the open house have not yet been decided.
- Campbelltown and Lawn fire companies provided monthly reports.
- John Eberly, township manager and secretary, extended his thanks to the highway team and fire companies for their help during inclement weather.
- Kendra Hoffman provided a report on the Palmyra Public Library.
- Motions for the January reorganization and regular meeting minutes were unanimously approved.
- Motions for the payment of township bills and payroll were unanimously approved.
The South Londonderry Township Board of Supervisors meets at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. Meetings are held in the municipal building at 27 W Market St. and are open to the public. Next month’s meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 12.
