Over the past three years, Uncharted Lancaster has given away $4,700 in cash prizes during its annual treasure hunts. This year, the tradition continues with the JBT and Raiders of the Golden Osprey Adventure. The treasure hunt kicks off on Saturday, April 6, 2024, promising an exhilarating five-week expedition, weekly cash prizes, and the chance to win a share of $3,250 in what is billed as their most thrilling treasure hunt yet!
In an adventure worthy of Indiana Jones, players will explore Lancaster and Lebanon Counties over five weeks on this quest for fortune and glory as they race to uncover the legendary Golden Osprey—a (fictional) treasure hidden over two millennia ago by ancient Phoenician explorers who discovered the Susquehanna River. The rewards for the top teams are as follows:
- First place: The first team to complete the adventure claims the treasure chest overflowing with $1,500 in one-dollar coins.
- Second place: The runner-up receives a fantastic loot box with $1,000 in one-dollar coins!
- Third place: The adventure isn’t over for the bronze medalists, who haul home a hefty cache of $500 in one-dollar coins!
Additionally, an honorable mention goes to the fourth-place team with the highest score on the leaderboard (and not among the first three Golden Osprey finders), walking away with $250. All four teams will receive a full-size 3D commemorative Golden Osprey souvenir commemorating their epic quest.
Playing is simple.
- Purchase your treasure diary.
- Register your team (beginning March 16).
- Check Uncharted Lancaster’s website every Saturday at 9:30 am starting April 6, 2024, for that week’s challenges.
- Solve the weekly riddles and decipher the clues to unlock segments of the treasure’s GPS coordinates.
The Raiders of the Golden Osprey Adventure requires participants to utilize local history knowledge, puzzle-solving skills, and the ability to navigate non-level terrain, making it a game of skill suitable for all adventure enthusiasts.
Not only is this treasure hunt an exciting adventure, but it also serves a greater purpose. Proceeds benefit the Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster County (HPT) and Lancaster History, with $19.99 from every “treasure diary” purchase going to the non-profits. Funds going to HPT will contribute to their digital archiving project, aiming to scan their 160,000 artifact collection and preserve Lancaster County’s rich architectural heritage. Monies going to LancasterHistory will be used toward their wider mission of educating the public on the history of Lancaster County.
Purchase your treasure diary today for a chance at fortune and glory, all while contributing to a great cause! Weekly clues begin on Saturday, April 6, 2024.
