Gretna Music has appointed John Clare, a longtime champion of classical music, as its new artistic director for the 2024 season.
Clare has spent nearly three decades programming classical music for radio audiences, including WITF, central Pennsylvania’s public radio station, and Sirius XM’s Symphony Hall, where he will continue as the morning host.
In his new role with Gretna Music, Clare will oversee the programming and production oversight of summer concerts at Mount Gretna Playhouse in the Pennsylvania Chautauqua. He will also manage audience and donor relationships.
“His heartfelt enthusiasm for uplifting and uniting our communities in central Pennsylvania through the beauty of chamber music, the expressive energy of jazz and other impactful programming makes him the ideal person to lead us artistically into the future,” executive director Suzanne Stewart said in a release.
Founded in 1975, Gretna Music offers a variety of affordable live music experiences during the summer, including classical, jazz, world music, family programming and other cultural events.
