“The Dutchmen,” a documentary chronicling the Flying Dutchmen’s national championship season in 1993-94 NCAA Division Three men’s basketball, culminating in an upset victory against New York University, will be available to view for free on YouTube beginning March 19.

The 82-minute documentary was uploaded to Lebanon Valley College’s YouTube channel on the 30th anniversary of the championship game, which saw LVC beat the larger NYU team in overtime.

The film takes viewers through the rebuilding years of the team, which was led by head coach Pat Flannery and Division III All-American Mike Rhoades ’95, current head coach of the men’s basketball team at Penn State University. The documentary premiered at LVC’s Miller Chapel in front of an audience of over 300 on Oct. 14, 2023.

Former forward Jason Say teamed with long-time friend Garrett Heath, Heath’s OkieJoke Media company and LVC to produce the film.

“The Dutchmen” is built around 17 in-depth and sometimes emotional interviews of the players, coaches and community members involved with the rare national championship that LVC won with two overtime victories in Buffalo, New York, on the weekend of March 18-19, 1994. The documentary also draws from old newspaper clippings, grainy footage from the coverage produced by WLYH-TV, Lebanon and the college’s archives.
