The Community Fire Company of Cornwall Borough will host a fundraiser on International Firefighters Day – May 4 – at the Blue Bird Inn in Cornwall to support local efforts to keep the community safe.
The free event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature live music, specialty beers, and a raffle for more than 10 baskets, with themes such as fishing, romance, lottery, dogs, garden, Christmas, and shooting. Raffle tickets are available for purchase, and participants do not have to be on-site to win.
The press release noted the dwindling membership of many volunteer fire companies, which rely on their local municipalities and fundraising to help pay for their needs. “While Cornwall Borough is very supportive and while we are so appreciative of what they provide us in a budget, it simply does not cover all of the necessary and ongoing required expenses,” the release said.
According to company president Matt Tsirnikas, owners of the Blue Bird Inn contacted him to suggest giving free wings to those who donate to the fire company. “With the support of Fire Chief Mark Miller and the assistance of our fundraising committee, we have an exciting event planned for Saturday,” Tsirnikas said in the release.

Future fundraising events include a Mother’s Day flower sale on Friday and Saturday, May 10-11, at the side parking lot of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Blue Bird Inn is also sponsoring the company for a “local love” promotion in May, in which certain beer purchases will result in a donation to the fire department.
