A traveling exhibit designed to raise awareness about breast cancer and the impact of the disease on women and their families will visit downtown Lebanon as part of the First Friday festivities in June.

Lebanon Valley Council on the Arts will host the PA Breast Cancer Coalitionโ€™s traveling exhibit, “67 Women, 67 Counties: Facing Breast Cancer in Pennsylvania,” on Friday, June 7. The exhibit will open at 5 p.m., accompanied by a reception, and will run until 8 p.m.

The simultaneously educational and artistic exhibit features a series of portraits of at least one woman from each of the stateโ€™s 67 counties. It aims to serve as a reminder of the toll that breast cancer can take on women and their loved ones’ lives.

The traveling exhibit also strives to catch potential signs of breast cancer early by encouraging women to do their yearly clinical exams and mammograms as well as monthly breast self-exams.

โ€œLVCAโ€™s board of directors is looking forward to hosting this exhibit as many of us have friends and family members who have been impacted by breast cancer,โ€ said Courtney Reimann, a board member of the Lebanon Valley Council on the Arts.

This year, more than 13,000 women will be added to the 140,000 women in the state who are currently living with a breast cancer diagnosis.

The exhibit is free and open to all ages. It will be accompanied by refreshments from St. Gertrude’s Banquet Hall and Catering Service, giveaways, and entertainment by local folk-rock musicians Bobbi Carmitchell and Ashley McFalls.

The PA Breast Cancer Coalition was founded in 1993 by a group of breast cancer survivors dedicated to finding a cure for the disease. The Lebanon County-based organization supports female cancer patients and advocates for early detection and treatment.

As part of its mission, the organization sends women in the state who are diagnosed with breast cancer a free “Friends Like Me” care package within six months of their diagnosis.

This summer, Lebanon Valley Council on the Arts is soliciting donations of scarves, sleep masks, earplugs, travel-sized hand lotions, colored pencils, and other supplies that will be used in these care packages.

In addition, the organization works to raise awareness about breast cancer, advocates for legislative support, and provides research grants for the disease.
