Let’s get this out of the way immediately: “Bussy McBusface” is not an acceptable submission.

Otherwise, Lebanon Transit is open to any and all creative suggestions for naming its fleet of 18 buses for Try Transit Month.

“Lebanon Transit is inviting residents to harness that creative naming power to give names to its fleet of buses during its first Name the Bus contest,” Lebanon Transit spokesperson Mike Ritter explained in a press release. “Winning names will be displayed on each bus so residents can identify them by name during Try Transit Month in September.”

The light-hearted competition will consist of two rounds. During the first round, participants can submit up to three bus names, from which the Lebanon Transit staff will select their 50 favorite suggestions. Those 50 name options will then be put to the community for an online vote to determine the winning selections.

The period for submissions begins at 8 a.m. Monday, July 15, and closes at midnight Sunday, July 28. Community voting will run from 8 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, through 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9.

Winning names will be announced and winners notified by Friday, Aug. 30. Of the 18 winners, eight will be randomly selected to receive an official Lebanon Transit fleece scarf.

The contest will be hosted online at LebanonTransit.org/NameTheBus. Residents without internet access can contact the marketing coordinator at 717-274-3664, ext. 304, to submit their entries.

The rules are simple:

  • The contest is open to residents living or working within Lebanon County.
  • During the name submission round, participants can enter up to three potential bus names per person.
  • During the community voting round, participants can vote an unlimited number of times for their favorite name or names.
  • Names of people (living or dead), places, songs, movies, pop culture elements, and other non-trademarked items are permitted. Be creative!
  • But be classy. Names that are obscene, offensive and/or derogatory in nature or reference illegal activity will be disqualified.
  • Any and all entries for “Bussy McBusface” will be immediately disqualified. We can do better than that people!
  • Winners agree to have their name, municipality, and photo shared on the Name the Bus webpage and Lebanon Transit social media accounts.
