Set in the 1980’s at the height of the Cold War, Chess illustrates how something as trivial as a game of chess can mean so much more when fueled by the threats and propaganda of nations at war.

Mount Gretna Summer Concert Series – Larry McKenna Summer Concerts at Mt Gretna Tabernacle

7:30-9:30 p.m., Saturday, July 20 | Third St. & Glossbrenner Ave, Mount Gretna

Located under the trees of beautiful Mt. Gretna, PA, the Tabernacle is located at 3rd Street & Glossbrenner Avenue, Mt. Gretna, PA. 17064. The venue seats 700 under the roof but you can bring a lawn chair and sit outside along the perimeter.  Rain or shine.

No tickets or reservations needed.

These shows are PAY WHAT YOU WANT with a free-will collection taken at intermission.  Seating is on a first-come-first-serve basis.  All shows start at 7:30 p.m.  You will want to arrive by 7:10 p.m. to get a good seat.

1) Mt. Gretna United Methodist Church parking lot at 4th St. & Boehm Ave.

Schaefferstown Fountain Park Services at Schaefferstown Fountain Park

Relax and enjoy an evening of music at Schaefferstown Fountain Park at 7:00PM

July 14 features the “Brothers In Grace” This quartet has delighted audiences with their unique Southern Gospel style music and tight harmony!

Juy 21 features “This Way Up” The Crull family will make unique music using instruments made out of colorful plastic tubes called “boom whackers” and corrugated drainage pipes. Everything is tuned up to specific notes and played like a gigantic pipe organ. There might be some audience participation! Children will love this group!

July 28 feature “Teen Challenge” from Rehersberg. Come and hear the amazing testimonies of these boys and men as they tell their stories of how they came to Christ! Hear them sing their praises to God.

Light refreshments and fellowship follow the services. Rain Place is at St. Pau’s U.C.C. at the corner of Heidelberg Ave. and Carpenter St. in Schaefferstown.

Mt. Gretna Bible Festival – Knotwork Band Concert at Mt. Gretna Tabernacle

The Knotwork Band is a trio that performs Celtic folk music from Ireland, Scotland, England, and Brittany, as well as American and World music with ties to Celtic folk music, either musically or historically. Freewill Offering will be received.

Turtle Island Quartet at Mt. Gretna Playhouse

$5.00 – $35.00 | 7:30-9:30 p.m., Sunday, July 21 | 200 Pennsylvania Ave, Mount Gretna

The program features works by Terence Blanchard, Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate, Rhiannon Giddens, and Turtle Island Quartet founder and violinist David Balakrishnan. The quartet is known as a singular force in the creation of bold, new trends in music for strings. The group’s name, Turtle Island, is the name for North America used by some Indigenous people. Poet Gary Snyder pointed out that American culture was really an immigrant culture, coming from all points of the globe. The founding members of the quartet felt this fit them perfectly, since their aim was and continues to be melding the wide range of music performed in North America, both past and present. $35/$25/$15

Full Moon Kayak at Memorial Lake State Park

What’s better than seeing the full moon? Watching it from the water! Come out to Memorial Lake for a night paddle and float while observing the night sky, nocturnal wildlife, and the dark! This is NOT an introduction to kayaking and so all participants are required to bring their own kayak, lifejacket, light, and whistle.

Everyone participating must be over the age of 16, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. There is no registration for the event, but all participants must sign in and out before and after the paddle. We’ll launch from Middle Lot Boat Launch at 9 p.m., so come before to have your craft ready!
