Lebanon Valley College is exploring a solar project that would be located on a college-owned property off Kreiderheim Lane in North Annville Township.
No plans have been submitted for the project, and the project is in preliminary stages.
“A board committee authorized exploring the feasibility study of a solar installation on LVCโs campus in May,” said Tom Hanrahan, campus communications director. “However, the project is in the preliminary stages: there has been no authorization or determination of the likelihood of moving forward.”
So far, the college has met with county and township officials to discuss the project.
The goal would be to develop a solar installation that would provide a significant portion of electricity for the college, Hanrahan said. The project would reduce energy costs for LVC.
Discussions have placed the project on a 111.84-acre agriculturally-zoned parcel along Kreiderheim Lane, nearby the eponymously named LVC president’s house, Kreiderheim. The solar project as discussed so far would occupy less than a tenth of the parcel.
If LVC proceeds, it would need conditional-use approval from North Annville Township.
North Annville Township is studying whether the project fits into the criteria established via its 2021 commercial solar ordinance, which defines requirements and process, including hearings, for seeking conditional use approval to develop a solar farm in the ag district.
