The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture announced Tuesday, Aug. 14, that it had detected E. coli bacteria in Meadowview Jerseys brand raw milk sold locally.
The ag department said that the affected milk products would have been purchased between Aug. 5 and Aug. 12, with a sell-by date of Aug. 19.
Shigatoxin-producing E. coli bacteria was detected in the milk during routing testing for pathogens, the ag department said. The milk was sold in plastic gallon, plastic and glass half gallon, plastic quart, and plastic pint containers.
In Lebanon County, the milk was sold at Country View Grocery in Annville (1941 Horseshoe Pike). Other locations, a full list of which is included below, are in Berks, Dauphin, and Lancaster counties.
The farm has already contacted wholesale and retail stores that distributed the milk, according to the news release.
E. coli can lead to severe stomach cramps, diarrhea (often bloody), pneumonia, sepsis, and vomiting. Although most people recover without treatment after 5 to 7 days, vulnerable populations such as young children, seniors, and people with compromised immune systems can face additional risks.
