Lebanon Mayor Sherry Capello shared additional details of a structure fire that broke out Friday morning, Sept. 13, at 1330 Brandywine St.
Capello said Lebanon Fire Department was dispatched at 9:52 a.m. for a multiple dwelling fire.
After the initial dispatch, Capello said, first responders learned that a baby was trapped on the second floor. A second alarm was rung by Lebanon fire command at 9:54 a.m.
Capello said that a “brave neighbor and a worker from a nearby business attempted to gain entry to the second floor with no success due to the heavy smoke and heat.” Lebanon police attempted to enter the structure as well.
City fire units arrived on scene at 9:55 a.m., the mayor said in the news release.
Five people were reported to have occupied the home at the time of the fire. Capello shared their current status as follows:
- Barbara Miller, age 59, was airlifted to Lehigh Valley Burn Center with second-degree burns.
- A female, age 5, was transported to Lehigh Valley Burn Center; condition currently unknown.
- A male, age 4, was transported to Lehigh Valley Burn Center; condition currently unknown.
- A female, age 2, was transported to Lehigh Valley Burn Center; condition currently unknown.
- A male, age 1, is deceased.
The fire was said to have originated in a second-floor bedroom; the cause is currently undetermined and an investigation by Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshals is ongoing.
“I commend the Lebanon Fire Department for their swift and professional actions, the Lebanon City Police, Lebanon City Fire Police, and Lebanon City Public Safety Inspectors for their steadfast assistance,” said Capello.
She also recognized the fire departments and other mutual aid resources that assisted the Lebanon City Fire Department as providing exemplary service on the scene:

Capello said Lebanon city is fortunate to have a brave community of neighbors to call upon when needed.
“A community of first responders who come together when it matters most to protect the lives and property of others without hesitation,” she said.
Capello also thanked the neighbors who have supported the family by caring for pets and other actions.
“Lastly, the city extends our heart-felt, deep condolences to the family members of the one year old victim,” she said. “There are no words to express our sadness for this loss of young life.”
