Lebanon County high school seniors have the opportunity to earn scholarships for participating in local politics through a program offered by the Lebanon County Council of Republican Women.

The nonprofit organization, an auxiliary council of the Lebanon County Republican Committee, is awarding a $1,000 scholarship to one high school senior and a $500 scholarship to another to encourage civic engagement.

To be eligible, students must attend a local government meeting, such as a school board or municipal meeting, and share their experience. The scholarship is open to all seniors regardless of their political affiliation or future plans. The application aims to assist students with expenses related to their next life phase, whether college, trade school, military service, or entering the workforce.

A committee of school board members and retired teachers or educational staff will review the applications. Deadline for applications is Jan. 31.

“The Lebanon County Council of Republican Women is proud to announce our scholarship program for the second consecutive year,” Dawn Blauch, president of the organization, said. “As a council, we promote honest government and unselfish patriotism. Our scholarship has two main objectives: first, to educate future leaders about local government, which, while often overlooked, has a profound impact on our communities; and second, to support their continuing education.”

Last year’s scholarship winners attended school board and planning commission meetings, exceeding the expectations of program organizers.
