At its October meeting, the South Londonderry Board of Supervisors addressed a brief agenda and awarded a bid for the 2024 crosswalk improvements project.

Supervisors unanimously passed a motion awarding a bid for the 2024 crosswalk improvements project to low bidder Heim Construction. The bid went for $90,542.22.

Crosswalk improvements will address ADA curbing and other sidewalk issues throughout intersections along Route 322.

Supervisors also unanimously passed a motion to approve the Mount Gretna snow plowing contract.

The agreement with Mount Gretna Borough has been reworded to reflect a five-year contract rather than three years, as previously written. Mount Gretna Borough approved the contract last month.

Rounding out the new business section of the agenda, supervisors unanimously approved the Municibid highway equipment bids. Several pieces of highway equipment were sold following last month’s discussion, where it was determined that the equipment is no longer being used by the township.

During old business, supervisors accepted Cindy Skinner’s letter of resignation from the South Londonderry Township Historical Commission.

Additionally, township manager John Eberly recommended that Mandy Braden be offered the full-time administrative operations specialist position, which supervisors unanimously approved.

Eberly also reported that South Londonderry residents should note that the township is not providing leaf collection this year. Collection equipment has been placed on backorder and will not arrive until the new year. Eberly said the township will alert residents when leaf collection resumes.

Supervisors also discussed the following topics:

  • Chief William Reigle of the South Londonderry Township Police Department reported that there were 261 incidents in September.
  • Campbelltown Fire Company reported 48 calls for service in September. Lawn Fire Company reported 16.
  • The September regular meeting minutes, September supervisor workshop minutes, township bills and payroll were unanimously approved.
  • Eberly reported that the township was not awarded the PennDOT Multimodal Transportation grant. The grant was intended to fund a proposed roundabout at the intersection of Forge and Airport roads. Eberly stated that the township will continue to resubmit applications for the grant.

The South Londonderry Township Board of Supervisors meets at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. Meetings are held in the municipal building at 27 W. Market St. and are open to the public. Next month’s meeting will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
