Mount Gretna Borough Council unanimously approved training on an automated external defibrillator for borough employees and discussed getting an additional AED so there is one in the Mount Gretna Playhouse and one in the post office.

Bill Care, director of public works, said training will cost $45 for six employees, and the price will be split between the borough, the Chautauqua and the authority.

He also said the AED in the playhouse will be moved to the post office during the winter to protect the thousand-dollar equipment from harsh weather. Care said they should consider keeping the AED in the office year-round and getting a new one for the playhouse.

“We’re probably going to end up getting one,” council president William Kleinfelter said. “We’ll put that in the budget.”

The borough is just starting its 2025 budget process, according to Care. The first meeting has not yet been scheduled.

“We’ll start looking at it,” he said. “We look pretty good, actually.”

Kleinfelter said more information will be publicly available in November, and deadlines are quickly approaching.

“Next month we’ll distribute a tentative budget so everyone can look at it and see, make additions, corrections, whatever we want to do,” he said.

The borough needs to have a preliminary budget together by November so it can be advertised and then finalized in December.

In other business:

  • Leaf collection in the borough will be on Oct. 28 and Nov. 12. Brush pickup will be on Nov. 25 and Dec. 30, and there will be special pickups scheduled if there is any storm damage.
  • During a discussion about light posts throughout the borough, Care said they have an issue with many lightbulbs being burnt out. He said if anyone sees lights that are out, they should get the post number and pass it along to the borough so he can get some people from MetEd to come replace the bulbs.
  • The borough is looking to get a replacement car for the director of public works, and Care said he got quotes from $12,000 to $23,000. He said next meeting, he will come back with a recommendation for the council to vote on.

The Mount Gretna Borough Council will meet next at 6 p.m. on Nov. 11 at the firehall on Boulevard Street.
