The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization of employers and other purchasers, has awarded an “A” safety grade to WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital, as well as to WellSpan hospitals in Ephrata and Waynesboro, for fall 2024.
“Year in and year out, it’s our commitment to safety and quality that keeps our patients trusting WellSpan for their care,” Dr. Michael Seim, senior vice president and chief quality officer at WellSpan Health, said in a statement. “These principles are at the heart of our vision to be a trusted partner for our patients. Our unwavering dedication to these core values drives real results and improves outcomes across our entire system.”
The Leapfrog Group assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country twice each year based on more than 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries, and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.
Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and the resulting harm to patients, the release states. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public.
WellSpan hospitals in Chambersburg, Gettysburg, and York were recognized with “B” grades from the group.
