Penn State Extension educators are urging would-be dieters to consider a plan for lifelong healthy eating, rather than another fad diet as a New Year’s resolution.

Anyone interested in managing weight while eating satisfying and nutritious foods can learn about a science-based way to accomplish those goals by attending a six-part Penn State Extension series, “The Volumetrics Weigh of Life: Weight Management Plan,” in early 2025.

The workshop will run from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on consecutive Thursdays from Jan. 16 to Feb. 20 at the extension’s office at 2120 Cornwall Road, Suite 1, Lebanon.

The program is based on the research of Barbara Rolls, professor of biobehavioral health at Penn State, and is designed for anyone interested in losing or maintaining weight while still eating satisfying amounts of food. People who want to learn strategies to eat well for optimal health also can benefit from the plan.

Instructors will discuss fundamental weight management principles and emphasize sustainable eating patterns for lifelong weight management. Each of the six classes will provide calorie density lessons, food demonstrations, examples of Volumetrics food choices, and interactive learning opportunities through small-group discussions and activities.

According to a press release from the Penn State Extension, participants will learn to:

  • Think positively about what they can eat.
  • Use science-based, sound nutritional advice to achieve and maintain weight management goals.
  • Choose foods to control hunger and increase satiety.
  • Modify recipes to incorporate the Volumetrics principles.

Attendees can register for the workshop series through Jan. 14, either online or by calling 1-877-345-0691 during normal business hours. Cost of the program is $40.
