The Union Township Board of Supervisors approved several waiver requests suggested by the planning commission for the Lebanon Newswanger and Jono/Ace Hardware Expansion preliminary/final land development plans and briefly discussed an incoming BL Companies warehouse development during the Dec. 11 meeting.
The BL Companies warehouse is proposed at 150,000 square feet and will be located at 2855, 2861 and 2867 State Route 72.
A sketch plan presented at the meeting showed they are hoping to have two access points to 72, but that will be decided by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
No action needed to be taken regarding this plan, but the board provided advisory comments and said the next steps would include a scoping application for a traffic study and an application for a preliminary and/or final subdivision in the land development.
There was no public comment regarding the upcoming project, but township manager Brent McFeaters said he was anticipating “more resistance” from residents who don’t want more warehouses in the area.
“We have a warehouse being proposed right up the street here on the other side of the police station and we have this other one now being proposed,” McFeaters said. “They’re not very big ones, but they still facilitate trucks and travel.”
He said the region is a strategic and accessible place for businesses to build, especially due to the township’s positioning near major highways.
“At the end of the day, you don’t need warehouses in the middle of the country — the infrastructure does not allow it to be there,” he said.
Supervisors unanimously approved the township’s 2025 budget, which will keep the millage rate consistent for residents.
McFeaters said there were no changes to the advertised budget.
