Jackson Township supervisors on Jan. 6 unanimously approved the purchase of a used 2016 Ford F-150 pick-up truck that will be added to the township’s fleet of vehicles.

Brian Weaver, who works with the township’s road crew, presented his research to the board and said the used truck with about 98,000 miles on it was the best option at $14,999. He said he called several other dealerships to get more information about what they had available, but this was the best deal.

He said the sub-$15,000 price tag had already been negotiated down from its starting point and included all fees and title transfers.

“There was no reason to buy anything new,” he said. “All it’s doing is hauling the mower around in the summertime.”

The vehicle’s CARFAX report said it hasn’t been in any accidents and all service information was available, according to Weaver, and he didn’t see a reason it couldn’t go another 98,000 miles after purchase. He said the trucks are only used for a few miles at a time, and he anticipates only adding about 5,000 miles per year to the odometer.

Supervisor Thomas Houtz said the township needs the additional set of wheels because zoning officer Donald Gettle is more active than the previous officer.

“The pickup truck that we have for running for parts is what is designated as the zoning officer’s truck,” Houtz said. “Because it’s in use, we need something that we can use to run for parts, but it also gets used then to transport tractors and stuff.”

The township will move forward with filling out all necessary paperwork to purchase the truck.

In other business, the board unanimously approved all 2025 positions during the reorganization meeting prior to the regular meeting. All roles will remain consistent with last year, with Houtz as chairman, Michael Dunkle as vice chairman, Thomas Morrissey as secretary and Mandy Fidler as treasurer. They also renewed all board and authority positions that required a new vote for the year.

The Jackson Township Board of Supervisors will meet next at 60 N. Ramona Road on Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
