The West Lebanon Township Board of Commissioners on Monday agreed to adopt an ordinance prohibiting parking on Scull Street between Webster and Washington streets.

The ordinance was passed with all commissioners in favor excepting Joseph Templin, who voiced concerns about residents parking on their properties being penalized for the end of their cars sticking out into the road.

Commissioners in favor said that, with a 38-home housing development coming to Scull Street, cars parked on the street could impair access to the development for its residents or emergency service responders.

In response to Templin’s concerns, commissioner Michelle Testerman said the ordinance will mitigate legal risks that could come from residents’ cars sticking out in the road, such as collision with snow plows.

“You can still park on your property,” Testerman said.

Solicitor Paul Bametzreider said the township was legally in the clear to establish the ordinance, as the township has a 33-foot right-of-way.

Monday’s agenda was otherwise brief, with the board making routine report and minute approvals.
