A Jonestown man was fatally struck by a driver while crossing State Route 72 on a crosswalk north of the intersection with Jonestown Road early Monday morning, Jan. 13.
In an information release, Pennsylvania State Police said that a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu driven by a 19-year-old Lebanon man fatally struck 60-year-old Eric D. Meck of Jonestown shortly before 6 a.m.
The Lebanon man was driving south on Route 72 and struck Meck with the front passenger side of the vehicle, according to the information release.
Dispatch logs show that calls first came around 5:55 a.m. for a pedestrian that had been struck. EMS arrived on scene and determined that Meck was deceased, PSP said.
The coroner’s office was called to the scene around 7:25 a.m., according to dispatch logs.
PSP said that the Lebanon man stayed on scene to provide a statement, as did a witness.
An investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed at present.
