Fort Indiantown Gap is set to host another warfighter exercise – a validation/recertification of division and brigade levels occasionally held by the army to assess deployment capabilities.

Gap officials said that at the height of the exercise, approximately 3,000 additional personnel will be present at Fort Indiantown Gap, and local residents may notice an increase in vehicular traffic.

While the exercise is happening at Fort Indiantown Gap, it’s the different army units involved that are actually running it. This exercise’s primary training audience will be the New York National Guard’s 42nd Infantry Division, with additional participation from the New Hampshire, Mississippi, New York, and Ohio National Guards.

As LebTown has reported about past warfighter exercises, the event serves as a realistic simulation that tests unit-level leadership and staff decisions. The primary goal of the warfighter exercise is so that the army knows that certain units will be able to deploy if and when the need arises.

Participants began arriving Monday, Jan. 13, and some will remain there until Feb. 10. Arrivals and departures will be staggered over the four-week event, with peak activity expected at the base during the last week of January and first week of February.

Although local residents should expect an increase in base traffic during the exercise, base activity will still be moderate compared to the Gap’s usual busy season, which runs from the week after Easter through August, with training volume peaking in June or July.
