Mount Gretna Borough Council discussed 2025 parking passes during the Jan. 13 meeting, telling the Cornwall Borough police officer in attendance to start watching for vehicles without one.
Bill Care, director of public works, said the passes are needed to park all throughout the borough, and this year’s stickers and hangers were mailed out to residents earlier in the month.
“We usually give the residents a little leeway to get them on their cars,” he said. “The reason we have those is because of all the parking issues we used to have with Airbnbs. People come in, and then people would come home from work, and vacationers would be in the house next door, and there’d be no place for them to park.”
Parking fines are $50. Care said officers will have discretion over whether or not to hand out tickets, and residents can also call them to report an illegally parked car.
Residents get a total of four passes — two regular passes and two guest passes. If they need additional ones, they can call the office to get more. The extra passes are only good for one day, according to Care.
Council also provided an update related to a resident donation to redo a street.
Care said he would not reveal the name of the man who donated $20,000 to do the street in front of his house, Stevens Avenue.
“We didn’t ask him — he offered to donate money,” Care said. “[His street] wasn’t that bad, and it’s not like we didn’t have the money to do it. We were planning on doing it.”
He said they got an estimate of less than $10,000, so they went back to the anonymous donor, who said the borough could keep the money and put it toward another road project. They are considering using the additional funds on Chicago Avenue.
Care said they don’t have a specific timeline for the two projects, but they’re looking to get started in the spring.
In other business, council members unanimously approved three short-term rentals in the borough – 210 Pennsylvania Ave. and 310 Pennsylvania Ave. are renewals, and 402 Lancaster Ave. is a new addition.
Mount Gretna Borough Council will meet next at 6 p.m. on Feb. 10 at the firehall on Boulevard Street.
