During Palmyra Borough Council’s brief Jan. 28 meeting, council members unanimously approved the road closure of West Cherry Street between South Railroad and South Mark streets on Saturday, May 10, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the annual TruckTrek: The Central PA Food Truck & Arts Fest.
The TruckTrek Facebook page said this will be the event’s 10th year, calling it the “biggest food truck event in Lebanon County.”
Proceeds from every TruckTrek since 2018 have gone to Caring Cupboard in Palmyra.
“Your support of this event has turned into $13,000 to support their Summer Lunch Program and other children’s food-security programming over the years,” the TruckTrek Facebook page posted in May.
Borough manager Roger Powl said council’s only role in the TruckTrek process was approving the road closure. Everything else is up to event coordinators.
“Kristine Warner, Judge Warner’s wife, is the one that puts that whole thing together, and she’s just continued to do it every year,” Powl said after the meeting. “It seems to get a little bit bigger each year.”
The road closure will be in front of the Palmyra Area Middle School and will cover a distance of about .25 miles.
In other business:
- Council member Matthew Andrews asked if there was a timeline for repainting crosswalks in the borough. Powl said both curb painting and crosswalk painting are spring and summer jobs. He said council members and residents should bring any crosswalks that are worn out to the borough’s attention so they can be added to the list.
- Council member Marcus Riddell said he found a grant opportunity to help cover the East Ridge Road stormwater management project that requires the borough to pay $25,000. The minimum grant amount would be $30,000, but council members said costs could easily go up over time due to inflation rates. Powl said the affected residents want the issues fixed as soon as possible and going through the grant process could extend the timeline for at least another year.
