An Annville-Cleona High School senior has been selected as a 2025 National Merit Scholarship finalist, giving him a shot at one of nearly 7,000 Merit Scholarships that will be awarded later this year.

Landon Hostetter, the son of Heather and Jeffrey Hostetter, is the only National Merit Scholarship finalist in Lebanon County this year, according to a release.

Hostetter was among 16,000 semifinalists named in September 2024, according to a statement from the National Merit Scholarship Corp. The NMSC will begin notifying scholarship winners and their schools in March.

The A-C senior told LebTown in an email that being named a finalist gave him “some much-needed peace of mind because it’s super helpful for college applications. It’s cool to see some of the work I’ve done throughout high school pay off like this!”

Hostetter said he plans to major in mechanical engineering in college, although he hasn’t yet selected a school. He also plans to run cross country in college, he said.

At Annville-Cleona, Hostetter is vice president of the Student Council, president of the National Honor Society, and class treasurer. He also is involved in cross country, track and field, and soccer.

He is grateful to his teachers who have gotten him this far in his education.

“My teachers have always been awesome, but Mr. Kreiser, Ms. Wilson, and Ms. Heller are standout teachers,” he told LebTown.

“Mr. Kreiser taught me so much about math and helps me with so much even when I don’t have his class anymore, Ms. Wilson’s science classes are super fun and helped me learn a ton, and Ms. Heller coaches our running sports and is the most dedicated and caring coach I’ve ever seen.”
