A longtime Lebanon business owner has been selected as the 2025 recipient of the Merritt Marks Businessperson of the Year Award.
Bill Shay Jr. – who, with his family, has operated Shay’s Vending since 1938 – was announced as this year’s selection in a press release from the Community of Lebanon Association. The Community of Lebanon Association (CLA) described the family-owned business in the release as “a cornerstone of the Lebanon community.”
“Over the decades, they’ve offered much more than just entertainment services – they’ve made an enduring impact on the lives of local residents and supported numerous causes that make Lebanon a better place to live,” the release said.
Besides his business, CLA noted, Shay over the years “has been a benefactor to local causes, including supporting homeless veterans and local schools and students of Our Lady of the Cross, Lebanon High and Lebanon Catholic.” He has also supported local youth sports for more than 30 years, lending financial support to local basketball, baseball, and softball teams.
Shay also has been a long-time supporter of local businesses through dart and pool leagues, as well the Lebanon VFW and other local charities. He also is a third-degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, has served as president of the coin-op association Pamma, and has been a supporter of St. Mary’s Church, Our Lady of the Cross, and numerous local organizations and clubs.
“Bill is truly a pillar of the community,” the release said. “From his business achievements to his extensive civic and community involvement, Bill is an inspiration to all who have had the privilege of knowing him.”
The CLA will present the award at a member mixer from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at Lebanon Picture Frame & Fine Art Gallery, 847 Cumberland St., Lebanon.
