Myerstown Vitality Partnership recommends the Isaac Meier Homestead for family visits.

While the Myerstown Vitality Partnership (MVP) primarily focuses on Myerstown’s future, it must never lose sight of its rich history. An outstanding example of the area’s heritage is right on Route 501 (524 S. College Avenue, Myerstown).

The Isaac Meier Homestead, an impressive Limestone Building, dates back to the mid-1700s. It was initially home to Isaac Meier, who, in 1768, laid out lots for a town called Tulpehockentown on the first land grants he sold. He was also a banker and money lender and owned at least three other plantations besides the one where he lived.

His life was cut short on July 14, 1770, when he was shot and killed at age 40, at Henry Buch Haus, a local tavern. The killer was never apprehended.

Local tourist attraction

Today, thanks to the ongoing efforts of the Isaac Meier Committee, started in 1968, as part of the Myerstown Bi-Centennial, the Isaac Meier Homestead has become a popular tourist attraction.
