GAF’s focus on community involvement highlights MVP April News.
GAF is North America’s leading roofing and waterproofing manufacturer, with 30 locations across the country, including Myerstown, where it has been part of the local community for more than 20 years.
GAF-Myerstown produces asphalt shingles that are used to protect homes throughout the country.
GAF is among the most visible local employers in the Myerstown area.
To its credit, GAF-Myerstown keeps its 160 employees focused not only on the manufacturing and distribution of quality roofing products but also on the importance of constantly being aware that we are all part of the local community and are responsible for giving back in various ways.

For example, GAF GM/Plant Manager Johan Alexandersson serves on the Board of the Myerstown Vitality Partnership (MVP). “The volunteer Board is dedicated to the growth of Myerstown as a community. GAF is proud to be an employer in Myerstown and a good neighbor, making a positive difference as neighbors and partners in the community,” he says. Johan is responsible for everything that goes on in the Myerstown operation.

GAF and community involvement
Site Materials Manager Lisa Sensenig and Administrative Coordinator Kara Schaeffer share responsibilities for keeping GAF connected to the community. They explain, “GAF is committed to the communities in which we live and work (mostly Lebanon County). We believe it is our responsibility to help our hometowns thrive. We want our neighbors to know they can count on GAF to be there when it matters most, in good times and bad.”

Johan adds, “Our community involvement mission is called GAF Community Matters. Our local teams lend their time and talents to address the community’s unique initiatives. We help support the fundamental needs of shelter, families, and workforces.

Myerstown Community Park
GAF provided this Myerstown Community Park project to the Borough of Myerstown. It includes new basketball and pickleball courts. Watch for the opening date.
Relationship with ELCO School District
“We provide free training and are connected to the ELCO school district,” says Johan. “Through this initiative, graduates can find good-paying jobs, and enter the workforce instead of starting their college education immediately.”

Johan concludes, “I was asked what makes me proud? My response: Our people working in the plant and the dedication, passion, knowledge, and work ethic they show every day. I am also proud of our relationship with ELCO and other organizations in the community.”
MVP Board Chair Steve Goodhue comments, “The Myerstown Vitality Partnership (MVP) is thrilled to have Johan Alexandersson representing GAF on our Board. They are a great example of what makes a thriving community grow. Perhaps your business wants to follow suit, as we are still looking for new board members.
