The James Biever Police-Community Alliance (JBPCA) recently awarded $700 to the Lebanon City Police Department to support FBI-LEEDA Basic Supervisor Training for two officers.

This initiative reflects the department’s ongoing commitment to continuing education and professional development, a release said. “Effective police leadership training equips officers not just to enforce the law, but to inspire, lead with integrity, and build resilient, community-focused teams,” Captain Eric Sims said in a statement.

The two officers will complete their training in July, bringing the number of Lebanon city police officers who have received supervisory training through JBPCA funding to 14.

According to the FBI-LEEDA website, “The Basic and Advanced Supervisory Liability Programs are online courses that cover constitutional supervisor liability, sexual harassment, deliberate indifference, internal affairs standards, and use-of-force policies.” The organization’s mission is to advance the science and art of law enforcement leadership and promote the exchange of information to improve management practices through training, education, and networking among police professionals across the United States and beyond, the release said.

Lebanon city police Sgt. Stephanos Goumas, a past participant in the program, found the training invaluable. “I found the supervisor liability courses extremely valuable. The topics discussed have real-life application,” he said in the release. “This is information every supervisor should know. It benefits our department — and in turn, the community we serve.”

The James Biever Police-Community Alliance’s mission, according to a statement, is to enhance and foster police and community relations while providing financial support to Lebanon County police departments and individuals interested in pursuing a career in criminal justice.
