The South Londonderry Township Board of Supervisors approved quotes for the Mount Gretna sewer system rehab project and line painting on township roads at the July 8 meeting.
The contract for the sewer system went to West Virginia-based Snyder Environmental Services for $330,852. Township manager John Eberly said they will reline the old terracotta lines, which will help decrease infiltration of outside water coming into the system.
“You pay by the gallon of water, so if you have ground water coming in, going in there, your rates will go up,” Eberly said after the meeting.
He said the township will be using a $400,000 Local Share Account grant to help pay for it and has a total of around three years to use the funds.
“I’d love for that to start this fall — it’ll depend on how fast we can get the contract and all the details out there and get them moving on that,” Eberly said. “If it’s next year, it’ll be fine, but I want to do it sooner because of the implication if we have big rainfalls and stuff, what that’s going to do to our bill from the Mount Gretna Sewer Authority.”
The contract for line painting went to D.E. Gemmell for $9,040.91. Eberly said the painting is on a three-year schedule, and this year will include Hinkle, Bell, Drescher, and Epler roads, Northside Drive, and Lynmar Avenue.
This work also doesn’t have an established timeline yet, but Eberly estimated it will take place later this fall.
In other business, supervisors:
- Approved ordinances 230, 231, and 232, regarding nuisance, curfew, and a historical commission repealer.
- Agreed to give seven of the police department’s old computers to the Fraternal Order of Police in Lebanon for $50 each. Chief William Reigle said all data will be wiped before the transfer.
- Approved a conditional offer for a South Londonderry Township Police Department candidate, pending the individual passing some final tests.
- Promoted South Londonderry police officer Jared Zimmerman to sergeant. Reigle said Zimmerman has been with the department since 2017 and described him as a “jack of all trades and a master of most of them.”
The South Londonderry Township Board of Supervisors will have its next regular meeting at 27 W. Market St. on Aug. 12 at 7 p.m.
