The Lebanon Area Fair is just days away and Monday, July 21 is the official “Children’s Day” at the Fair, packed full of free family-friendly activities sure to keep you entertained. Plus, the first 500 children through the gates will receive a free goodie bag!

The fun starts at 9 a.m. with a sheep to shawl demonstration in the sheep barn. Check out the many breeds of sheep on display by 4-H members in the barn and then watch as the shorn wool is spun into a fiber and woven into a finished project like a scarf or blanket!

Head to the Midway at 9:30 a.m. for a performance by the Rock N Roll Pet Store, singer/songwriter/children’s entertainer Mike Zaffuto. He will present a second show at Noon. His show features his own original music, funny puppets, amazing magic, and live friendly animals that magically appear to fill up the Rock N Roll Pet Store. Kids of all ages are entertained by Mike and his Rock N Roll Pet Store friends.

Starting at 9:30 a.m. and running through 2 p.m., complimentary face painting is available courtesy of Schott Pharma. The face painting will be held behind the Outside Eatery.

The Eudora Farms Petting Zoo opens at 10 a.m. and is filled with farm animal favorites and exotic creatures from around the world. Eudora Farms is based in South Carolina and operates a Wildlife Safari Park, a drive-thru experience. At the Fair, the Petting Zoo is a great way to get up close and personal with dozens of animals – you can even hand-feed several animals throughout the zoo!

The Hog Diggity Dogs show takes place at 10 a.m.; a spectacle of laughter, excitement, and animal magic. The stars of the show include Shelton the 700-pound hog, a group of talented dogs, and a cadre of captivating camels. Hans and Colleen are the devoted caretakers and trainers for this entertaining show.

Get pumped for Hershey Bears Ice Hockey with an appearance by Coco from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring your cameras for a photo opportunity!

At 10:15 a.m., Jen Kuzo of Visit Lebanon Valley will host a story time in the Wenger Pavilion, reading “The Adventures of Lebanon Lilly.” Immediately following, experience the musical delights of the Ashley Butters Violin Studio Performance at 10:30 a.m. This is an ensemble of Suzuki Violin students from the greater Lebanon area. The Suzuki method is a mid-20th-century music curriculum and teaching method created by Japanese violinist and pedagogue Shinichi Suzuki.

After a break to explore the animal barns and enjoy a lunch at the Fair, the special Children’s Day programming resumes on the Midway at 1 p.m. with a show by the dazzling Magic Man TJ Hill. Hill has been “The Nation’s Favorite Magician” for more than 15 years! In 2008, TJ earned himself the title of “Official Magician of the Pittsburgh Penguins” and was elected Magician of the year by the International Brotherhood of Magicians. Watch as objects disappear, multiply and vanish right in front of your eyes during TJ’s close-up show.

At 2 p.m., children can be amazed at the athletic prowess of the Family Karate Martial Arts Studio. Finally, Suzanne’s Dance Studio will perform at 6 p.m. Both demonstrations will be held in the Pavilion.

A children’s Scavenger Hunt is held daily at the Fair, but on Children’s Day, the Scavenger Hunt will take participants past special stations hosted by the Lebanon Area Fair Queen, the Master Gardener’s of Lebanon County, Lebanon County Dairy Princesses, and Lebanon County 4-H Poultry and Rabbit Clubs. Outside on the grounds, children will find fire trucks, tractors, and animal shows.
