PennDOT announced on Friday that pavement repairs are planned for this coming Tuesday at the intersection of 7th and Maple streets in Lebanon.

Weather permitting, work is expected to begin at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, according to a release from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Work is expected to be completed by the end of the day.

The work is associated with the replacement of the Route 72 (Ebenezer Road) bridge spanning Swatara Creek between Jonestown Road in Union Township and New Bunker Hill Road in Swatara Township, PennDOT spokesman Dave Thompson said in the release.

The bridge opened to traffic in December. The repairs planned for next Tuesday will address deterioration that occurred to a section of the detour route during the bridge closure.

The work will start at the intersection and extend west about 120 linear feet toward 8th Street, the release said. Work includes milling and asphalt paving in the eastbound lane.

Motorists should be alert and drive with caution through the work zone, PennDOT said. Lane restrictions will be enforced by a flag crew, and trucks are asked to avoid the intersection because turning will be difficult.

Susquehanna Valley Construction Corporation of New Cumberland is the prime contractor on the $4.9 million bridge replacement project. Subcontractor JVI Group Inc. of York Springs will perform the repairs on Tuesday.
