The VA Lebanon Healthcare System announced on Aug. 19 that it again received top marks from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings.

The Lebanon VA is one of only 15 hospitals in Pennsylvania with a five-star rating. The local veterans’ hospital also achieved the top rank last year.

Ninety-one fewer hospitals earned a five-star quality rating from CMS this year compared to 2024. Of the approximately 6,120 hospitals in the United States, only 290 received five stars.

CMS publishes its Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings each year, reflecting a hospital’s performance across five quality measures: mortality, safety, readmission, patient experience, and timely and effective care. According to a release from Ryan Stubblebine, public affairs specialist for the Lebanon VAMC, CMS ratings aim to improve patients’ ability to make informed decisions about where they receive care.

“It’s an honor to announce that Lebanon VAMC is one of only 15 hospitals in Pennsylvania – and among the few to include the Wilkes-Barre VAMC and Philadelphia VAMC – to earn this top rating,” Lebanon VA Healthcare System director Jeffrey Beiler said in the release. “This accolade validates the high-quality care we provide, often surpassing what Veterans might receive elsewhere. Our empolyees’ [sic] dedication and excellence in delivering exceptional health care are truly commendable.”

The Lebanon VA Medical Center is one of 170 medical centers in the U.S. providing medical care to America’s veterans. Lebanon VAMC serves Adams, Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, Schuylkill, and York counties and oversees community clinics in Mechanicsburg, Pottsville, Willow Street, Wyomissing and York.

More information about the Lebanon VAMC is available on its website and on the medical center’s Facebook page. The overall rating, as well as ratings on specific quality and satisfaction measures, of VA hospitals can be found through CMS’s Care Compare tool.
