A Lancaster County woman died Friday evening, Nov. 21, in a head-on collision on U.S. Route 322 at South Mountain Road in Cornwall Borough, according to police.
Bethany Lynn Tomassetti, 43, of Lancaster County, was driving an SUV east on Route 322 when her vehicle crossed into the westbound lane near South Mountain Lane and struck a farm truck hauling a trailer at approximately 5:16 p.m., Cornwall Borough police said.
Officers attempted CPR on Tomassetti, but she was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lebanon County coroner. A yellow Labrador retriever in her vehicle also died in the crash.
The truck driver, a 68-year-old Shippensburg man, was not injured.
Emergency crews from Cornwall and South Lebanon fire departments, Lebanon County DES hazmat unit, and Penryn Fire Company of Manheim remained at the scene for about eight hours. PennDOT crews assisted with cleanup of approximately 500 gallons of spilled diesel fuel. Also assisting were Campbelltown Volunteer Fire Company and fire police from Cornwall, South Lebanon, Quentin, Mt. Gretna, Schaefferstown, Brickerville, and Durlach/Mt. Airy.
Cornwall Borough police are investigating the crash and ask anyone who witnessed the accident to call 717-274-2071.
