Republican John Schlegel last week announced his intention to seek re-election to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
Schlegel is serving his second term representing the 101st Legislative District, which consists of Lebanon city, Cornwall Borough, and North Cornwall, West Cornwall, North Lebanon, South Lebanon, and West Lebanon townships.
During his tenure in the state House, Schlegel has serves on the Aging and Older Citizens, Children & Youth, Education, and Human Services committees. He is the Republican chair of the House Education Subcommittee on Career & Technology Education and was appointed to the Pennsylvania Commission on Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and Related Disorders.
According to a press release, Schlegel “has focused on practical solutions that support local businesses, protects taxpayers, and strengthens communities. His work has been recognized by the National Federation of Independent Businesses for consistently supporting policies that help small businesses grow and succeed.”
A lifelong Republican and former educator Schlegel resides in Cornwall Borough with his wife, Ruth Ann.
“I believe effective government starts with listening,” he said in a statement. “I work hard to remain visible and accessible to constituents, to hear their concerns, and to collaborate with colleagues to find solutions that work for our communities.”
According to the release, Schlegel advocates for legislation to save taxpayers money, protect consumers from fraud, and support health care and behavioral health initiatives. He is a co-sponsor of House Bill 900, which seeks long-term solutions to Pennsylvania’s property tax system.
Schlegel said in the release that the foundation of his platform includes “strengthening the local economy, keeping cost of living affordable, and ensuring safe welcoming communities.”
