Editor’s Note: In 2021, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valleyโs restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. Welcome to the second season of our highly anticipated Lebanon Valley Breakfast Wars. Three entrants from the Valley will compete to be declared the winner of Best Breakfast in The Valley.

Our judgement will be based upon several factors including style of quality, portion, taste, and overall impression. We will be judging at least two breakfast dishes from each restaurant.
Our final stop brings us back over to the east end of the Valley and a local hot spot along the railroad tracks, Richland Railroad Diner. This cozy restaurant offers table and counter seating, which can be at a premium during peak hours. The menu consists of several classic breakfast options, including omelets, melts & burritos, skillets, sweets and their own specials.

For our breakfast today we got the Southern Benedict ($8.99) and Peanut Butter Crunch pancakes ($9.49). The pancakes were the breakfast special this morning.
The Southern Benedict is two over-medium eggs on a biscuit covered in sausage gravy and served with home fries. Here you get your choice of sliced, deep fired, or hash browns for your home fries. The gravy comes with solid chunks of sausage with a creamy country flavor. One thing that never disappoints me here is the biscuits. Fluffy, flaky goodness to give the hearty start to the day.

Our second dish is two pancakes topped with peanut butter, granola, powdered sugar and whipped cream. This plate looked good from the start. The soft crunch of the granola blends well with the warm peanut butter. They give you syrup for this, but the dish truly didnโt need it. The peanut butter is not overpowering and allows this delectable treat to be enjoyed.

As an aside, we took half of this dish home with us and added some banana on top, and it was mind blowing!
Did we just have the Best Breakfast in the Valley?
Next, we will digest all these amazing breakfasts and compare our notes and decide our winner. Who do you think will be our winner?
