New details have emerged in the death of a South Londonderry Township woman and the arrest on Friday of her husband, who allegedly concealed her passing for several weeks before her badly decomposed body was found in the home.

Lebanon County District Attorney Pier Hess Graf issued a press release Monday, April 20, with more information on the arrest of 68-year-old Michael B. Mikula.

The press release said that officers were dispatched at approximately 2:30 p.m. on April 14 for a wellbeing check at the Timber Lane home in South Londonderry Township and there met with Mikula.

Mikula initially told officers that his wife, 66-year-old Sharlene Mikula, was not home, according to the news release.

“As officers spoke with Michael and began to check the home, Sharlene Mikula was located deceased within the home,” the DA’s office said.

Her body was in a state of advanced decomposition, according to the release, with Mikula quoted as telling officers that she had passed about a month prior.

The home was searched and an autopsy was performed, the results of which are still pending, but the DA’s release states that evidence indicates Mikula had lived in the home for at least a month after Sharlene’s passing and had taken steps to conceal her death.

“At this time, there is no evidence to indicate Michael Mikula sought medical treatment for Sharlene nor did he attempt to notify authorities of her passing,” said the release.

Mikula was arrested and arraigned Friday. He was remanded to Lebanon County Correctional in lieu of bail, set at $100,000.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Lebanon County Detective Bureau at 717-228-4403. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 23.
