The Alletta Schadler Community Service/Engagement Award for 2026 has been awarded to Holly Dolan for outstanding service and leadership in the Family and Consumer Sciences and in the local community.
The award is given each year by the Penn State Extension of Lebanon County in honor of Alletta “Letie” Schadler, who served as home economist, family living agent and county extension director in Lebanon County from 1969 through 1999.
The 2026 award grants $2,000 for the recipient to support the pursuit of a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences.
Dolan is enrolled in the Doctor of Public Health program at Penn State University’s College of Medicine. She was recognized with a certificate presentation at the Lebanon County Extension office at 2120 Cornwall Road, Lebanon, on Tuesday, May 19.
In 1974, Schadler was appointed the first female county extension director in Pennsylvania, according to a press release. Her main program focus was food and nutrition, food safety, and food preservation, but she also worked in the areas of leadership development, textiles and clothing, and home management.
