Cornwall Borough has issued a boil water advisory for its entire water system after E. coli was detected during routine sampling.
Borough officials said the advisory was issued “out of an abundance of caution” and urged all customers to bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least a minute before using it for drinking or cooking.
Water remains safe for bathing and other non-food uses, according to the borough, as long as it is not swallowed.
During the advisory, residents should not drink tap water, use recently made ice or use tap water to prepare beverages. The borough also recommends brushing teeth with boiled or bottled water and washing dishes, fruits, and vegetables in boiled or disinfected water.
Customers on the borough’s emergency alert notification list will receive updates, including when the advisory is lifted.
