Richland Borough will hold a groundbreaking ceremony Saturday for a new elevated water storage tank.
The 500,000-gallon tank, to be built at 40 Georgie Lane, is designed to maintain more consistent water pressure, improve fire flow and emergency supply, and provide redundancy to an aging reservoir, officials said. The project marks the second major water system upgrade in recent years, alongside the Well #9 project.
Officials called the capital program notable for a borough of about 1,600 residents. The projects have drawn more than $7.5 million in grants and subsidized loans from PENNVEST, the Commonwealth Financing Authority, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and the state Department of Community and Economic Development.
State Sen. Chris Gebhard and state Reps. Dan Meuser and Russ Diamond helped secure the funds, along with the borough’s engineer, Herbert, Rowland & Grubic Inc.
“We’re immensely grateful for the support from our senator and representatives,” said Kelly Bricker, borough council president. “This funding helps us improve quality of life for our borough residents without passing on burdensome costs through taxes and fees.”
Members of the public are invited to the ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 25. The site can be reached via Spayd’s Lane, adjacent to the Speedway.
