Cornwall Manor Retirement Community announced late last week that president and CEO Steven D. Hassinger will be retiring on March 1, 2019.

Hassinger will be replaced by current executive vice president Lee A. Stickler.

“Steve has done a fantastic job helping create our strategic vision and leading the community during his time here, and I am honored to follow in his footsteps,” said Stickler in the release.

Hassinger has been with Cornwall Manor for more than 40 years. He was hired as administrator of health care services in December 1978, followed by a promotion to executive vice president in 1980 and then another to become Cornwall Manor’s fifth President in 1989.

The release says that Hassinger helped Cornwall Manor adopt its first strategic plan in 1991. He oversaw projects including the second phase of Laurel Place apartments, duplex homes on Gatehouse Lane, the Buckingham Mansion renovation, three new neighborhoods, Carriage House apartments, and the new health center and renovated Freeman Community Center.

Stickler was hired in November 1988 as the vice president for finance and promoted to executive vice president in January 2018. Stickler is a licensed Nursing Home Administrator as well as a Certified Public Accountant.

Cornwall Manor Board of Trustees chairperson Curtis J. Walizer said in the release that, “Steve has been a remarkable leader for Cornwall Manor’s growth and overall success.”

“The Board of Trustees are confident with the appointment of Lee Stickler as Steve’s successor. Lee will continue to lead Cornwall Manor as a premier senior living community in Central Pennsylvania. His dedication, experience and effective management skills will be critical strengths as he leads the community in the years to come.”

Cornwall Manor is a 550-resident, not-for-profit continuing care retirement community. It was opened in 1949 as the Methodist Church Home at Cornwall and currently has an endowment of more than $25 million.
