Central Pennsylvania, including Lebanon County, was issued an Excessive Heat Warning from the National Weather Service. Temperatures up to 113 degrees Saturday and as high as 107 degrees on Sunday are expected.

Lebanon County Agency on Aging recommends heading over to one of Lebanon’s Senior Centers, which are open to citizens 60 years or older.

Fertig’s Something Bold, Artisan and Gift Shop is also opening its doors for several days to those who may not have access to air conditioning. Free water is available for those who stop in. Fertig’s is open from 10am to 2pm Saturday.

Some events have been postponed in consideration of the extreme heat. The Sweep the Streets Girls High School Tournament scheduled for today will be held at a later date yet to be determined (possibly next Saturday).

The Lebanon Area Fair is continuing as scheduled, with organizers sharing tips on how to stay cool at the fairgrounds this weekend, such as taking breaks in the air-conditioned exhibit halls, or grabbing one of those Lebanon County Dairy Promotion Program milkshakes.

County Department of Emergency Services officials are on standby to facilitate cooling centers in the event of a power outage or other incident that impacts infrastructure.

The heat wave is expected to last through the weekend, with Accuweather forecasting a high of 82 degrees for Monday.
