Editor’s Note: In 2021, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

The time had come again. I was hungry while at work, and I had to figure out a place to go for a good sandwich.

There are plenty of options around the Valley. Some of my employees had gotten from a place in Palmyra a few times, so I thought it’d be my turn to give it a try.

I went on the Facebook page of Hoagies on Main and was able to see a picture of their menu posted. The menu has several Philly-style hoagies as well as cheesesteaks, meatballs, burgers, and chicken.

Located at 601 W. Main St. in Palmyra, they offer a couple of tables for indoor eating, but they mainly handle take-out and third-party delivery options. I called my order in and was told it would be ready in 10 minutes.

For today’s selection, I ordered a large South Philly Italian ($8.75). This sandwich came with salami, hamcola, prosciutto, sharp provolone, lettuce, tomato, and onion. And as usual, I ordered it with extra mayo. They offer a hard and soft roll option as well.

The South Philly Italian sandwich.

Upon first look, I knew it was going to give me at least two meals. There was enough meat in this sandwich for two. I was a fan of the spices added on top, which gave it that extra kick. The prosciutto was the bottom layer and, for me, it was a little tough to bite through on a full bite. The sandwich itself didn’t break apart so it wasn’t too messy.

Our take: This family-owned shop offers friendly service and makes a pretty good sandwich. They offer several variations of Italian. The quality of meats and the sharp provolone really stood out. Although I only ordered one sandwich, I really want to go back and try some more.

We give this place ????.
